The soldiers

„The soldiers“, mixed media, 105 x 55 cm per piece, since 2019

Unique pieces

This series consists out of 16 pieces so far, executed as a combination of printmaking and painting. The initial thought regarding this depictions is to speak about the archetypal idea of a soldier, seen as a tragic waste of individual human potential. The pieces visually narrate a clash between group identity and a personality trapped within the outer shell, trough an elaborate play between repeating shapes and uniquely painted characters. This work also contains a lot of symbolical hints to what the artist sees as death of the individual, shown trough depictions of neolithic death masks and the positioning of body parts, particularly hands, common to certain burial traditions.

In 2021 the series was awarded with the Collegium Artisticum award for printmaking, which is the highest printmaking award in Bosnia and Herzegovina, awarded by the Association of Artists of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The same year the series was awarded with the Nikola Vučković award for young artists at the 2oth Public and Private exhibition in Široki Brijeg, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
